In response to the Government’s initiative to foster exchanges among youth of the Greater Bay Area, and preserve Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, the Student Affairs Office dispatched Facilitator Ms. Ouyang Weng Ha and 8 students to participate the study tour: Foshan Kungfu Tour.
MUST Students
Using martial arts as a bridge, this four-day study tour attracted over 80 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Foshan. The martial arts-themed experience stood out as a major highlight, where senior instructors delivered in-depth lectures on the history of Wing Chun and Choy Li Fut. Participants then practiced in groups to truly grasp the martial arts spirits of balancing hardness and softness, as well as respecting teachers and honoring moral codes. Beyond martial arts, students learned basic lion dance skills and experienced Shiwan ceramic art and paper-cut handicrafts. The itinerary also offered a rich blend of modern innovation and traditional heritage: participants visited the Guangdong Industrial Design Center to witness the relentless pursuit of perfection embodied in “Made in Foshan,” and engaged in hands-on culinary experiences at Shunde Polytechnic University to immerse themselves in Lingnan cuisine culture.
This study tour not only makes students realize that martial arts serve as a spiritual symbol connecting the cultural heritage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, but also foresee the prospective future of the Greater Bay Area.
