On March 14 and 27, 2026, Macau Special Olympics (MSO) visited MUST to host Perler Beads and Luodian (Mother-of-Pearl Inlay) handicraft workshop. The initiative aimed to further promote the public welfare concept of caring for individuals with disabilities, helping them integrate into society and realize their self-worth.

The event was co-organized by the Social Service Team under the Student Affairs Office. Through interactive experiences, team members gained a deeper understanding of the needs of special needs groups and the charitable work of Special Olympics. During the promotional presentation, representatives from MSO delivered a detailed and insightful sharing on the support services for people with disabilities, providing a comprehensive overview of the diversified public welfare services they have long been committed to. In addition, the services also include accompanying programs such as life skills training and psychological counseling, helping to break down barriers for people with disabilities, enabling them to participate equally in social life, experience the warmth of the community, and realize their personal value.

During the Perler Beads activity, colorful bead pieces were neatly arranged. Under the patient guidance of the instructors, scattered beads were assembled into uniquely creative Portuguese pavement-style tiles.

During the second session, the participating team members, filled with curiosity, tried their hand at crafting the patterns, blending traditional techniques with heartfelt compassion.

Many team members expressed that this was their first experience with Luodian (Mother-of-Pearl Inlay) craftsmanship. Not only did they gain a unique handmade creation, but they also developed a more tangible understanding of what public welfare truly means. In the process of slowing down and engaging in creative work, they were able to appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese craftsmanship, while also grasping the enduring support and companionship behind such meaningful efforts.

Looking ahead, SST will join hands with various sectors of the community to organize a wide range of public welfare activities, continuing to promote the values of “equality, inclusivity, and integration.” Together, we hope to let the flowers of compassion blossom across the land of Macau, ensuring that every unique life is met with kindness and given the opportunity to thrive.
