Hosted by the Southeast University, the Oracle Study Camp concluded successfully in July 2026. The Student Affairs Office of MUST dispatched student Wang Yan-bo (FL) to participate alongside 29 other students and volunteers from various institutions in Hong Kong, Macao, and Southeast University. Featuring expert lectures, museum visits, and hands-on experience, this 7-day camp brought students up close to the oracle bone script, leaving a deep impression of the profoundness of Chinese civilization.
The camp kicked off with a lecture on oracle bone script by Dr. Guo Xu-dong, Executive Dean of the Henan Oracle Bone Script Research Institute. He systematically reviewed the discovery, research history, and core values of the oracle bone script, integrating AI technology to build a comprehensive learning framework for the students.
Another lecture was delivered by Yang Yang, a researcher from the Palace Museum, who explored various theories of oracle bone script alongside comparisons with ancient global writing systems, covered the complete process of bone preparation and divination, and highlighted its latest digital applications powered by AI. Following the lecture, students visited the Gaochun Ceramic Museum to mimic the ancient carving techniques, experiencing firsthand how events were recorded three thousand years ago.
As a writing system that has remained structurally unchanged for centuries, oracle bone script stands as a profound testament to the unbroken lineage of Chinese civilization. This study camp has inspired students to embrace the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, empowering them to tell the stories of oracle bone script and China in a global voice.
