The "Walks for Millions 2024," organized by the Charity Fund of the Readers of Macao Daily News, has established itself as a significant event since its inception in 1984, now commemorating its 41st anniversary. Upholding the principle of "Everyone for me, I for everyone," this initiative has been instrumental in the development of charitable activities in Macao, exemplifying the altruistic dedication and empathy of its citizens. This year, faculty and students from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) actively participated in a four-kilometer walk to support charitable initiatives, collectively advancing the cause. Their involvement has notably inspired the entire university community to engage in charitable activities, demonstrating the commitment of faculty and students to the welfare of marginalized groups within society. Looking forward, we anticipate an increase in participation from faculty and students, thereby further enhancing the university's contribution to the promotion of charitable efforts in Macao.
Preparations for the "Walks for Millions 2024" event were previously underway at the MUST. The Social Service Team, operating under the Student Affairs Office, established fundraising booths for a charity sale in the lobbies of the building B and N libraries from November 25 to 26. To enhance awareness of the event's significance, value, and fundraising objectives, promotional posters and announcements were disseminated across the campus. This initiative aimed to encourage greater participation and support from both faculty and students, fostering a collective effort to raise funds for those in need within the community. The charity sale garnered considerable attention and engagement from numerous students, thereby increasing awareness of the importance and value of the Walks for Millions and charitable endeavors. Participants expressed that they derived significant benefits from their involvement in this charitable event.
On December 5th, a cheque donation ceremony was held, during which Vice President Dr. Kwong Ying Wa, Supervisor of the Student Affairs Office Ms. Tam, Kit Leng, and President of the Social Service Team Yang Wendi presented a donation of MOP 100,000. This amount was raised by the staff, students, members of the M.U.S.T. Alumni Federation, and personnel from the University Hospital, and was donated to the Readers' Charity Foundation of Macau Daily.
