2025 "Outstanding Student Associations Awards Ceremony" Honors Distinguished Student Organizations

The "Outstanding Student Associations Awards Ceremony", organized by the Student Affairs Office of MUST, was successfully held on April 25, 2025, at Room O702. The event was graced by: Dr. Wong Ka Weng (Head of the Student Affairs Office), Mr. Tang Wai Lap (Branch Manager of Bank of China (Macau) MUST Sub-branch), Ms. Lei Pou Cheng (Faculty Secretary of University International College), Mr. Kou Chon Fai (Faculty Secretary of School of Liberal Arts), Ms. Tam Kit Leng (Duty Manager of the Student Affairs Office), Prof. Yan Shaoshi (Assistant Professor of Faculty of Humanities and Arts), Ms. Ou Zheongying (Mentor of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management), Student Affairs Office mentors:Ms. Ho Un Han, Mr. Leng Fei Ieong, Ms. Cheong Sin Teng, Mr. Lao Kin Weng. Over 100 representatives from 37 student associations attended, celebrating the achievements of MUST’s vibrant student community.

Head of the Student Affairs Office, Dr. Wong Ka Weng addressed at the awards ceremony, expressing her delight to witness the flourishing development of student associations during MUST's 25th anniversary celebrations. She fully affirmed the outstanding achievements made by student groups through their independent and proactive organization of activities. Dr. Wong emphasized extracurricular learning as a crucial component of students' holistic development, noting how participation in student associations facilitates self-improvement - particularly in cultivating soft skills through practical platforms during this era of AI advancement. She called on student associations to actively contribute in building a safe, healthy and positive campus environment, upholding the values of mutual respect, supportive collaboration and harmonious excellence while maintaining academic integrity. The Student Affairs Office and faculties pledged continued cooperation to provide extracurricular platforms and support the healthy development of student organizations.

The Student Affairs Office conducted a comprehensive evaluation of student associations based on: (1) submitted reports by association leaders within the stipulated timeframe, and (2) rigorous assessment of their 2024/02 and 2024/09 semester performance across six key indicators - administrative operations, annual planning, financial management, documentation upkeep, event quality, and campus engagement. Through this process, the "Top Ten Outstanding Student Associations" and "Rising Star" awards were determined.

 Additionally, after reviewing all eligible submissions, selected associations were shortlisted for online university-wide voting held April 11-16 to elect the "Most Popular Student Association," while the "Top Ten Most Popular Student Association Activities" were chosen based on combined voting results and participation metrics.

Award-winning associations, their leaders, and event organizers received certificates and MOP 300-1,000 in activity funding to recognize excellence and encourage continuous improvement. This year introduced five special awards: Active Association Award, Win-Win Cooperation Award, Best Anti-Fraud Promotion Award, Outstanding Student Leader Award, Most Popular Event Poster Award and the "Best Mentor Award" recognized Mr. Leng Fei Ieong for his consecutive two-year excellence in mentoring student groups.

 Acceptance speech by Representatives of Awarded Student Associations

‘Student Association Excellent Award Program’ aims at encouraging student associations to continue improving the work of the association, take initiative to hold and take part in different types of activities in the field of academics, arts, sport, social community and public welfares that are more closely aligned with the needs of students, beneficial to physical and mental health, and imbued with innovative spirit. According to the annual performances of student associations, we honored student associations having a strong sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and dedication serving student heart to soul, so as to motivate the well-balanced development for student association, and set an example for the student association in the University.

With the steadfast support of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and under the guidance of the Student Affairs Office and respective faculties, student associations have been developing along a positive and healthy trajectory. Moving forward, these student groups are expected to further refine their organizational work, foster a constructive campus atmosphere, and contribute to building a wholesome and compassionate university culture.
