NEWS:“The 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Student Forum” Successfully Held

“The 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Intellectual Property Student Forum” was successfully held on November 5-6, 2022, organized by MUST Faculty of Law Students’ Association. This event aims to jointly explore the significance of the protection and application of intellectual property rights to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and to deepen the understanding of this important national strategy of the GBA.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Head of Department of Students, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR, Ms. Tam Kit Leng, Duty Manager of Student Affairs Office of MUST, Ms. Sia Siao Rong, Instructor, Mr. Xie Gengliang, Program Director of the Faculty of Law of MUST, Ms. Xiao Huina, Assistant Professor, Song Jialing, student representative of South China University of Technology, Wang Yujie, student representative of Shenzhen University, Fang Jingzi, student representative of Jinan University, Mu Qingqing, student representative of South China Normal University, Sun Haoran, President of MUST School of Business Students’ Association; Shi Mingzhe, President of the MUST Faculty of Humanities and Arts Students’ Association; Liu Xiaohe, Vice President of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Students’ Association, and nearly 100 Law school representatives.

Opening Remarks by Xie Gengliang, Program Director of Faculty of Law of MUST

The event was held online and consisted of three parts: namely the Opening ceremony, two forums with four themes. At the Opening ceremony, Mr. Xie Gengliang delivered an opening speech, in which he fully recognized the continuous growth of MUST Faculty of Law Students’ Association, praised the students' active participation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Intellectual Property Forum, and encouraged the college students from different Universities to explore in the field of intellectual property. After that, Wang Yifan, President of MUST Faculty of Law Students’ Association delivered a speech as the representative of the organizer, and four student representatives from Shenzhen University Law School, Jinan University Law School, South China University of Technology Law School and South China Normal University Law School delivered speeches. At the end of the Opening, Assistant Professor Xiao, Huina gave a speech on the theme of the forum. She mainly focused on the special characteristics of the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau GBA and emphasized that in the Greater Bay Area, which is bound by many legal systems, we should not only focus on legal consistency and coordination, but also on discussing a feasible and efficient solution to protect intellectual property rights. She provided a good direction for the following discussion.

Xiao Huina, Assistant Professor of Faculty of Law of MUST, delivered an opening speech

The themes of the first forum were "Construction and Development of Inter-regional Mediation Mechanism for Intellectual Property Rights in the GBA" and "Study on the Coordination and Joint Mechanism for the Administrative Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in the GBA", and the themes of the second forum were "Study on the Coordination of the Cross-jurisdictional Trademark Legal System in the GBA" and "Study on the Coordination Mechanism of Intellectual Property Rights under the Construction of Rule of Law Business Environment in the GBA". Intellectual property rights have received increasing attention in recent years as a basic safeguard to stimulate innovation and a basic rule for international economic and trade transactions. During the event, students from the School of Law of MUST, together with several universities in the Chinese Mainland, explored the protection and improvement of intellectual property rights, explored the light of the Bay Area construction, raised the development potential of the region, improved technological strength and international competitiveness, expanded the influence of the Bay Area, and put forward suggestions from the perspective of young people that can help the Bay Area construction!

Activity Highlights

“The 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Student Forum” was successfully held, where students actively expressed their views on intellectual property issues in the Greater Bay Area, discussed in-depth, and actively explored the legal paths for the collaborative development of intellectual property in the Greater Bay Area, and learned about the construction of the Bay Area through friction and consultation, and demonstrated the wisdom of youth through interaction and exchange. With the support from Faculty of Law of MUST, the Macau Intellectual Property Research Center, Student Affairs Office of MUST, and sponsored by Education and Youth Development Bureau and Bank of China (Macau Branch), MUST Faculty of Law Students’ Association successfully completed this activity.
