While delivering a speech at the ceremony, Head of Student Affairs Office Wong Ka Weng recognized outstanding student associations and reminded those that did not perform as well as expected to make efforts to improve. Ms. Wong emphasized that "self-cultivation and academic pursuit" should be the fundamental requirements and conditions for student association leaders. She hoped that all association members would excel in both character and learning, abide by laws and regulations, be honest and trustworthy, and be willing to help others. She urged them to uphold the university motto of "Dedication to practical studies, enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality." and continue to promote the spirit of patriotism and love for Macau, taking it upon themselves to build a positive campus culture. Ms. Wong encouraged the cultivation of a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and innovative spirit through professional learning and practical work. She also emphasized the importance of physical and mental health and the gradual establishment of life aspirations and missions. In this regard, she put forward four abilities that student association members should possess: cultivating a sense of responsibility, valuing organizational skills and the quality of activities, enhancing leadership and collaborative abilities, maintaining physical and mental health, and effectively managing time to promote learning. She expressed the expectation that every student association at the university would become an organization that truly nurtures interests, fosters a sense of belonging and cohesion, enriches extracurricular life, and creates a positive campus culture. Ms. Wong further highlighted that the Student Affairs Office and the faculties would continue to collaborate in building a platform for extracurricular activities and supporting the healthy development of student associations, aiming to provide practical opportunities for students and promote their growth.

Speech given by Head of Student Affairs Office Wong Ka Weng

‘Student Association Excellent Award Program’ aims at encouraging student associations to continue improving the work of the association, take initiative to hold and take part in different types of activities in the field of academics, arts, sport, social community and public welfares that are more closely aligned with the needs of students, beneficial to physical and mental health, and imbued with innovative spirit. According to the annual performances of student associations, we honored student associations having a strong sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and dedication serving student heart to soul, so as to motivate the well-balanced development for student association, and set an example for the student association in the University. Strict evaluation was conducted based on the declaration materials submitted by student association leaders within the specified time frame, assessing the annual performance of student associations in the 2022 / 2023 academic years. The evaluation criteria included administrative operations, annual plans, financial management, data retention, activity quality, and active participation in campus events. Among the 36 evaluated associations, 15 student associations demonstrated outstanding performance and were awarded the "Top Ten Outstanding Student Associations" and "Rising Star Award". 11 associations achieved a satisfactory performance, while 10 associations had room for improvement. 3 associations failed to meet the performance standards for two consecutive years and were eliminated. Furthermore, the Student Affairs Office reviewed the declaration materials submitted by student association leaders within the specified time frame and determined the list of selected student associations. From April 21st to 25th, an open campus-wide vote was conducted on the online platform to select the "The Most Popular Student Association" based on which the "Top Ten Most Popular Student Association Activities" were determined, considering the voting results and activity participation.

Award certificates were presented to the winning student associations, student association leaders, and activity coordinators, along with a student association activity fund ranging from MOP 300 to 1000, in recognition of their excellence and to encourage future endeavors. It is expected that student associations will continue to improve their administrative work, foster a positive campus atmosphere, and contribute to the cultivation of a healthy and friendly campus culture. The event would like to express special thanks to the following supporting and sponsoring organizations: Macau University of Science and Technology and Bank of China Macau Branch.
