MUST is dedicated to fostering student engagement in social welfare initiatives. One notable project that the university consistently promotes and supports is the Campus Blood Drive. The Volunteer Association of the Students’ Union has played an instrumental role in facilitating these blood donation activities for many years. Their contributions encompass pre-event promotion, educational outreach, guidance for blood donation registration on the event day, and providing essential information regarding precautions prior to blood donation. This initiative has been actively supported for over sixteen years. Moving forward, the MUST will continue to encourage both faculty and students to participate in blood donation activities, thereby contributing to a sufficient and stable blood supply in Macao. Through these tangible efforts, we aim to demonstrate our commitment to societal welfare and contribute to the health and well-being of the Macao community.
In 2023, a total of 14,200 individuals registered to donate blood in Macao, with 12,708 successfully completing the donation process. Throughout the year, 3,787 patients received a cumulative total of 21,983 units of blood and blood components. Concentrated red blood cells were distributed to emergency departments, intensive care units, internal medicine wards, oncology units, and hemodialysis centers across various hospitals, as well as to surgical patients. Nevertheless, due to the aging population and evolving disease patterns in Macao, the demand for blood continues to increase. The Health Bureau Macao SAR persistently encourages all blood donors to motivate others in their communities to participate in blood donation efforts, thereby strengthening the support for these activities and contributing to the establishment of a healthier Macao, as well as enhancing the health and well-being of its residents.
